On Chinese networks
On hotel Wi‑Fi or a local SIM card the app opens to an empty screen and videos never start. YouTube Music and YouTube Kids are blocked the same way.
Apps in China
Does YouTube work in China?
Not on Chinese networks — YouTube has been blocked in mainland China since 2009. On a ChinaeSIMGo eSIM it plays normally, including YouTube Music, no VPN.

Ready to roamMainland China only eSIM
With a ChinaeSIMGo eSIM
ChinaeSIMGo is a roaming eSIM, so your phone never uses a Chinese internet connection. Traffic leaves through a partner network outside mainland China — YouTube sees an ordinary connection and works the way it does at home. There is nothing to install or switch on, and it keeps working for your whole trip.
Good to know
- Video is the fastest way to burn through data: about 0.5 GB an hour at 480p and 1.5 GB or more at 1080p. Lower the quality in the player settings, or download videos at home with Premium.
- Hotel Wi‑Fi won't help — it's behind the firewall. To watch on a laptop, share the eSIM via hotspot.
