On Chinese networks
On hotel Wi‑Fi or a local SIM card the feed won't refresh, Stories don't load and uploads fail. It's the same for Facebook, Threads and Messenger.
Apps in China
Does Instagram work in China?
Not on Chinese networks — Instagram has been blocked in mainland China since 2014. On a ChinaeSIMGo eSIM it works normally: feed, Stories, Reels, DMs and uploads, no VPN.

Ready to roamMainland China only eSIM
With a ChinaeSIMGo eSIM
ChinaeSIMGo is a roaming eSIM, so your phone never uses a Chinese internet connection. Traffic leaves through a partner network outside mainland China — Instagram sees an ordinary connection and works the way it does at home. There is nothing to install or switch on, and it keeps working for your whole trip.
Good to know
- Video eats data. Scrolling Reels and posting Stories can use up to 1 GB an hour, so pick a plan with headroom if you post daily.
- Instagram may ask you to confirm a login from a new location. Keep access to your email or home SIM so you can approve it.
